About Reynolds:
Reynolds Secondary School is a comprehensive secondary school serving approximately 1140 students in grades 9-12. Reynolds Secondary School is located in the Greater Victoria neighbourhoods of Saanich and is a member of the Reynolds Family of Schools which includes the following K-5 schools: Lake Hill, Rogers, Braefoot, Cloverdale, Doncaster, and Quadra along with Cedar Hill Middle School (Grades 6-8). Reynolds is the French Immersion secondary school for the western sector of the Greater Victoria School District. Reynolds Secondary School is an outstanding school that emphasizes high academic achievement, community service and a graduation transition plan that includes post secondary planning and preparation for all learners. The school is undertaking a major initiative to ‘Go Green’ which includes a focus on healthy living, environmental education and sustainability.
Reynolds Fine and Performing Arts Programs are well known throughout the region for artistic excellence. The facility includes art studios; a pottery studio; video production, photography labs and dark rooms; a state of the art music room; and a 200-seat theatre, drama and dance room, and choral program. The yearly musical theatre production is a community tradition and the band program is highly regarded throughout the province and boasts award winning concert, jazz, rhythm and blues and marching band ensembles. The visual arts and dance programs are also very successful programs that have been recognized with numerous awards and student scholarships.
Reynolds has a thriving and growing French Immersion program in grades 9 – 12 and in addition offers two additional “Programs of Choice” available to Greater Victoria School District students. The Flexible Studies: Leadership in Learning Program offers a challenging environment for high achieving and highly motivated students available in the core academic areas of Social Studies, English, Math and Science from grades 9-12. The Flexible Studies Program provides academic excellence; curricular acceleration and enrichment; and a flexible learning environment with a focus on experiential learning and the whole child. Character development through student leadership and community service opportunities is a major focus. The program also accommodates the flexible training schedule of elite athletes and performers.
The other program of choice at Reynolds is the Greater Victoria Centre for Soccer Excellence (CSE) offered to students in Grades 9 - 12. The objective of the soccer academy is to provide a formal high performance training program within the academic setting of the school with a commitment to excellence in student achievement, leadership and citizenship. The CSE program is integrated with the regular school program and is designed to develop the individual skills of the participants. Students apply to this program from a broad geographic area.
Reynolds offers a variety of Career & Community Programs for students in grades 10, 11 and 12 including: Environment & Sustainability; Journalism; Media and Fine Arts; Information Technology; Carpentry/Fine Furniture; Film Studies; Tourism; Recreation, Sport and Health and Theatre Arts. The programs include related courses with a work experience component and articulation agreements with post-secondary institutions.
Reynolds Secondary School celebrates the 3 R’s (Respect, Responsibility and Relationships) and they are used as a guide for all interactions on and off campus. A capable and caring staff, involved parents and a strong community support the students. Outstanding curricular, extra and co-curricular programs and students from across the district create a unique secondary school climate that celebrates diversity and supports students to achieve to their full potential.To complement excellent curricular programs, the school offers a variety of extra and co-curricular activities including inter-scholastic athletics and a large student leadership program, all designed to enhance a rigorous and relevant classroom experience. There is a growing International Student Program which hosts 80 – 90 International students, along with a growing number of ESL learners, throughout the year that are welcomed into classrooms, the school culture and the greater school community. There is pride in the success of the 56 First Nations Aboriginal students and the staff strongly supports their involvement and achievement in the school. A wide variety of students on exchange programs are also welcomed throughout the school year.
