Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
Welcome to the Reynolds Secondary for the 2023-24 School Year!
We hope that our Reynolds families had a restful and relaxing summer and that you are enjoying the last few days before school starts on Tuesday, September 5th. We are excited to welcome all our students back to school for another year of learning, growth, and exploration. Whether you are returning students or new members of our school community, we extend a warm and enthusiastic welcome to each one of you.
Our dedicated team of educators and staff have been working diligently to prepare for the upcoming academic year. We are committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and intellectually stimulating environment where every student can thrive.
Here are a few important details and updates to help you prepare for the school year:
Information Regarding the Week of September 5th – 8th
Please take note of the information below regarding attendance for your student during the week of September 5th – 8th.
Tuesday, September 5th
All grade 9 students will attend from 10:00 am – noon. Grade 9 students will meet in the gym
All grade 10 – 12 students will attend from 1:00 pm – 2 pm. Grade 10 -12 students will go to their A Block Classes at 1pm. All grade 10 – 12 students will need to check their schedule via the MyEd Student Portal or pick up a copy of their schedule prior to coming to school
Wednesday, September 7th, Thursday September 8th and Friday, September 9th
All students attend regular classes commencing at 8:40 am.
On Friday September 8th, there will be a welcome back corn roast and leadership activities at the end of the school day
Student Schedules and Course Changes
Student schedules are available via the MyEd Student Portal starting August 31st. Instructions for how to access the student portal can be found here: https://www.sd61.bc.ca/parent-student-resources/student-accounts/student-myed-account/. Printed copies of student schedules will be available August 31st and September 1st at 9 am until 3pm in binders in our main foyer.
Students who are looking to make adjustments to their schedule will be able to access a google form on the school website under the student info tab, course change request. Counsellors will be working on making adjustments throughout the week. We ask that you please submit your request via our website. Counsellors will reach out if they have any questions.
Schedule
For the 2023-24 school year, Reynolds Secondary will be using a semester timetable with an early dismissal on Friday. Students will attend all scheduled classes everyday. A link to our daily schedule can be found here: https://reynolds.sd61.bc.ca/our-school/class-meeting-schedule/bell-schedule/.
New Student Tours
If your family moved into the Reynolds catchment this summer and would like your student to get an opportunity to see the school before September 6th, Reynolds leadership students will be offering tours on Friday, September 1st from 1 – 2 pm. Meet in the foyer just inside the main doors off Borden.
New Speed Tables and Crosswalk on Borden Street
The District of Saanich has completed an infrastructure project on Borden St in front of Tim Hortons and Reynolds Secondary School. This project included the design and installation of a raised crosswalk and a traffic calming speed table. The project aims to improve safety for pedestrians using these connections to and from Reynolds Secondary School, and the Lochside Regional Trail.
Other Important Information
Extracurricular Activities: We offer a wide range of extracurricular activities that cater to various interests and talents. Whether you’re interested in sports, arts, debate, or community service, there’s something for everyone. Stay tuned for announcements about club sign-ups and tryouts.
Parent-Teacher Communication: We believe in a strong partnership between parents, guardians, and teachers. Open communication is key to a successful educational journey. We will be hosting parent-teacher conferences and other opportunities for you to connect with your child’s educators throughout the year.
School Supplies: Students can bring a binder/notebook and pen for the first day. Teachers will provide a school supply list for specific courses to ensure your child is well-prepared for their classes.
